Stepping Out

Having had the opportunity to work with Equine Therapy groups for the past 5 years we have recognized the need to help young special needs individuals find what they “can do” instead of define them by what they cannot do. This need has helped us create the idea for the “Abilities Ranch”. Our goal is to provide therapeutic riding and life skill training to empower individuals with disabilities to discover more about themselves and develop skills and confidence that help them progress far beyond preconceived limitations.

The Problem

In 2021, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 44 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism disorder (ASD). Autism affects all ethnic and socio-economic groups. Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across a lifespan.

Children and adults with autism, Down syndrome, and other neurodiverse abilities have unique challenges in life. Due to these challenges, it is extremely important to take part in programs for life skills and therapeutic training that nurture the spirit of progress, learning, community, and creates a reassuring compassionate environment conducive to finding ones strengths and abilities.

The Solution

We decide to provide a solution to the dramatic need by starting a ranch to touch the southern most part of Texas and Mexico. Tell the story of solution
