Work Day at the Stables

What you're looking at here is the new centralized location for providing equine-assisted therapy for autistic children and adults provided by the generous people at West Texas Cowboy Church. This location between Midland and Odessa will feature Equine Therapy. Here, you'll soon see why horses are a successful method of reaching children and adults with autism, down syndrome, and other neurodiverse abilities by providing an outdoor experience to use all senses while learning and processing through emotional challenges.

At the Abilities Ranch, our goal is to provide therapeutic riding and life-skill training to empower individuals with disabilities to discover more about themselves and develop skills and confidence that help them progress far beyond preconceived limitations. I'm standing in the new Abilities Ranch centralized location between Midland and Odessa, and I’d like to take you on a tour of this new location provided by West Texas Cowboy Church.

As you can see in the past these stables were set up as a first class operation, they haven’t been used for a little while and have become a little bit of a storage catch all, but with a little elbow grease we will have an amazing safe comfortable place for our horses and a perfect place to provide therapy for so many amazing people.

Our first project to get this property ready for horses is going to be Saturday April 15th.  We welcome any help that anyone is willing to give.  We will be cleaning up a lot of the storage items, sweeping, as well as removing a lot of weeds out of the horse runs.  As soon as we have this part of the project done we will bring in some sand for the horses to walk safely in.

As soon as we clean the stables and have a clean safe place we will go get the horses and introduce them to their new home.

Our other immediate needs will be horse tack, (saddles, blankets, reins, bridles, ect…), a horse trailer, and hay for the horses.  Anyone willing to donate any of these items or tax-deductible funds to purchase them would be extremely appreciated.

The Abilities Ranch recognizes the wide spectrum of autistic ability limitations and this place is going to help change that. The Abilities Ranch's motto is to find what they "can do" instead of defining them by what they can’t.”

Please come help be a part of the solution for our amazing friends.

Thank you
